Shabih is a Laboratory Head at WEHI and Principal Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne. His PhD (University of Helsinki), used cryo-EM to study human virus structures, assembly, entry into host cells and neutralisation by monoclonal antibodies. During his post doc (MRC-LMB, Cambridge), he used cryo-EM to decipher the key step of Fanconi Anemia DNA Repair pathway.
Research Interests
The main focus of the Shakeel lab is to decipher structure, assembly and function of mutli-protein complexes in molecular details using cryo-EM coupled with in vitro reconstitution and mass spectrometry. Currently, the Shakeel lab is working on multi-protein complexes involved in gene regulation, genome protection and viral entry.
