Maria-Eleni Georgopoulou

Marialena is a current ARC CCeMMP PhD student in the Parker Lab at the University of Melbourne. She graduated in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from the University of Thessaly in Greece, and she obtained her MSc studies in Advanced Experimental and Computational Biosciences at the same department.

Research Interests

Marialena’s PhD project, focuses on studying a transmembrane protein involved in Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). She will investigate the structure of that protein in the presence of inhibitors by Cryo-EM, crystallography and other biophysical/biochemical approaches with the aim of discovering drugs for treating TBI; currently only poor treatment options are available.
