Prof. David Adams

Distinguished Professor David Adams (FAHMS, FRSN, FAPS, FTPS), previously CEO and Executive Director of the IHMRI, University of Wollongong (2015-2022), Professor and Director of the Health Innovations Research Institute (RMIT University), and an ARC Australian Professorial Fellow.  He is currently an ARC grant reviewer, a member of NHMRC Grant Review Panel and a member of the NSW Cardiovascular Disease Research Advisory Committee.

Research Interests

Prof Adams has made seminal discoveries on membrane receptors and ion channels, including the identification of novel peptides (conotoxins) from cone snail venom as probes for ion channel structure and function. He has identified selective conotoxins for voltage-gated sodium and calcium channels, nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, and demonstrated GPCR modulation of calcium and potassium channels.
