The CCeMMP annually organise a series of professional development activities to foster the development of soft and technical skills in our students and researchers. This year, CCeMMP EduWeek 2026 will be held in the week of September 14th to 18th. Activities will all be held in-person across the MIPS and Bio21 campuses in Parkville with some hybrid sessions available.

These activities are only open to Centre members and affiliates, unless otherwise specified. All spots are limited and require registration to attend.

Creating Cultures of Belonging: Inclusive Language and Practices

This interactive workshop supports PhD students and researchers to reflect on how the language they use and the way they interact with others shape belonging, collaboration, and inclusion within research environments. Grounded in an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) framework, the session explores how researchers can foster more inclusive, respectful, and supportive laboratory and research cultures through everyday communication.

Through discussion, reflection, and practical activities, participants will explore inclusive language, psychological safety, cultural responsiveness, and respectful communication. The workshop will provide evidence-informed strategies to strengthen collaboration, navigate diverse perspectives, and contribute to research environments where colleagues, students, and collaborators feel valued, respected, and supported.

Participants will develop a personalised action plan with practical strategies to strengthen inclusion and belonging within their own research context.

Advanced Blender Workshop

This workshop builds on the foundations of the CCeMMP Blender Workshops and will explore the more complex and advanced 3D modelling features of Blender to take your designs a step further. Topics may cover the use of world lighting, render engines, key-framing for animations etc.

Requirement: Attendees should have experience with Blender and have attended a Blender Workshop in the past.

Communications in Grant Writing

This workshop will focus on the core elements of communication and provide tools for communicating effectively. Participants will be able to apply these tools to any communication challenge (presenting, writing, funding applications etc.) Audience psychology and how audiences engage will be a key part of the program.

There will be a strong focus on grant writing capability.

Write That Journal Article in Seven Days using AI

This intensive, activity-based full-day workshop gives early career researchers and research students a practical, structured pathway to completing a journal article. Rather than treating writing as an amorphous creative act, the workshop breaks the process into seven clear, manageable steps — each supported by targeted AI tools and hands-on activities that participants apply directly to their own work during the session. Ethics and research integrity are woven throughout the day. Participants will engage directly with questions of data integrity, data sovereignty, AI disclosure obligations, and the risks of undisclosed AI use in grant applications and publications.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Apply a clear, repeatable seven-step process to move a journal article from idea to
    submission-ready draft
  • Select an appropriate target journal and paper genre based on their data and career
    intentions
  • Use AI tools responsibly and ethically at each stage of the writing process, in
    accordance with institutional and publisher guidelines
  • Translate complex quantitative or qualitative data into coherent, publishable narrative
  • Develop strategies for managing rejection and maintaining writing momentum

Participants are encouraged to bring a current writing project — or a ‘gunna’ project (one they have been meaning to finish) — to work on during the day. The pedagogy follows a consistent rhythm: introduce a concept, demonstrate a relevant AI tool, allow hands-on practice time, then group reflection.

The workshop is neurodivergent-inclusive and culturally safe. Participants are never required to share work in progress publicly.

Using ProteinDJ to design de novo protein binders

This workshop introduces ProteinDJ, a high-throughput protein design platform built with Nextflow, and demonstrates its application to de novo binder design. Participants will receive a brief overview of binder design principles and containerised workflows, followed by hands-on experience interacting with Nextflow and ProteinDJ via VS Code and the command line.

Participants will prepare an example target protein for binder design and examine how to curate generated designs using key metrics and filtering strategies. While there will not be time to run full design campaigns for individual targets, participants will leave with the practical skills needed to set up and execute their own binder design runs.

Requirements: Attendees will need access to M3 (mc12 project). Information provided upon registration.

Vibe Coding: Let’s learn how to ‘vibe’ code a piece of software from scratch

In this workshop, we will learn how to set up a virtual python environment and write a utility program to assess the outputs from a ProteinDJ run. By the end of the day we will have learnt how to write a python program that helps us analyse the sequence outputs from a partial RF diffusion experiment. Participants will also cover how to set up a gitHUB repository to publish their code and curate a README that makes it easy for other researchers to use their generated code.

Requirement: Attendees will need to have VSCode, Miniconda and git installed on their computers.
